The Director-General, World Health Organization on 11 March stated that COVID-19 is a pandemic. Many countries and regions have increased travel restrictions in the past week. These include visa cancellations and quarantine upon arrival. US, for example, announced yesterday that it would suspend all travel to Europe except UK for 30 days.
Although the COVID-19 epidemic is now mostly under control, and recovery has begun (please refer to the March 9 update), China (mainland), and Hong Kong have tightened travel restrictions for arrivals to better control imported COVID-19 cases.
ITE Hong Kong 2020, with the rapidly worsening global situation, will need to change substantially. It is a question of how much its high-profile international aspect can be maintained. In the past year, 85% of ITE Hong Kong's 675 exhibitors as well as nearly 40% of over 11000 buyers were not from Hong Kong.
TKS, organizer of ITE Hong Kong has been closely monitoring the situation. They have published regular updates, and are making contingency plans. TKS is currently evaluating the options to determine the future course of action. An announcement will be made as soon as possible next week.
